3. FILE YOUR ENVIRONMENT STATEMENT:

Environmental Audit is an exercise of self-assessment to minimize the generation of wastes and pollution potential. A gazette notification on environmental audit has been issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests on March 13, 1992 (amended vide notification GSR 386 (E) dated April 22, 1993). This notification applies to an industry, operation or process requiring consent to operate under Section 25 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 (6 of 1974) or under section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 (14 of 1981), or both, or authorization under the Hazardous Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989, issued under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986). The notification requires that an Environmental Statement (See Rule 14) for the financial year ending the 31st March be submitted to the concerned State Pollution Control Board, on or before the 30th September of the same year.

4. 1st Batch "Specially Designed Training Course On Corporate Legal Compliance Pertaining to Environment" completed:

The first batch completed Specially Designed Training Course On Corporate Legal Compliance Pertaining to Environment. The program was attended by representatives from Real Estate Majors, Automotive Manufacturing Units & Asbestos based manufacturing units. The program was organized during May 16 -19, 2010. Program was organized at Satori, Nirvana Country Club, Sector-50, Gurgaon on May 16, 2010. Later, it was organized in the conference room of National Foundation for India, India Habitat Center, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

7. Ambient Air Quality Standards revised by MoEF:

Revised Ambient Air Quality Standards devised by Ministry of Environment & Forests vide GSR 826 (E). Soft copy of the new standard is available at http://moef.nic.in/downloads/public-information/826.pdf.

The following points would be useful to note:

a) Now, it ncessary to monitor Particulate Matters (of size less than 2.5 micron & less than 10 micron) instead of RSPM & SPM

b) Standards for industrial and residential areas have become same

c) Norms have been set for more parameters such as Ozone, Ammonia, Benzene, Benzopyrene, Arsenic & Nickel. However, applicability of parameters should immediately be clarified from Authorities concerned

8. What is PLPA?

Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), 1900 is a legislation was enacted to save the soil from erosion. At the time of enactment it was applicable to whole of Punjab. Now it is applicable to whole of the State of Haryana. Areas of northern Haryana along the Shiwalik hills which are prone to soil erosion due to water flow in the rugged and slopy terrain and areas of southern and western Haryana which are prone to erosion both by air and water have been put under restriction of certain activities under this law.

Salient Features of PLPA:

Act can be divided into 6 major portions containing 22 section altogether. Section 2 deals with the definitions. Section 3 to Section 7A empower the government to notify and regulate certain areas, restrict or prohibit, by general or special order, within notified areas certain activities and to require execution of works and taking of other measures as deemed necessary to protect these areas. Section 8 to Section 11 endows the government control over the beds of chos. Section 13 deals with the power to enter upon and delimiting notified areas and beds. Section 14 and 15 are related with inquiry into claims and award of compensation. Section 16 to Section 18 lay down procedure for proclaiming notifications and of serving notices, orders and processes, issued under the Act. Section 19 to Section 22 are related with penalty for offences, bar of suits and applicability of Indian Forest Act, 1927.
